Your Skin Is Part of Your Wellness Story
When your skin starts feeling different—more sensitive, dull, dry, congested, or simply “off”—it’s easy to immediately look for a new product.
And sometimes, changing your skincare routine is part of the answer.
But after years of working with skin, one thing I’ve learned is that our skin doesn’t exist separately from the rest of us.
Stress, sleep, daily habits, nutrition, movement, hormones, and the way we care for ourselves can all be part of the bigger picture.
That’s why I believe skincare can start with a simple question:
What else is going on in my life right now?
Before Adding Another Product, Get Curious
Instead of immediately trying to “fix” your skin, take a moment to notice what has changed.
Ask yourself:
How has my stress been lately?
Am I getting enough rest?
Have my daily routines changed?
Am I giving myself time to slow down?
How consistent am I with my skincare?
Does my current routine still feel supportive for my skin?
This isn't about blaming yourself for a breakout or skin change. Skin is complex, and not everything can be controlled through lifestyle.
It's about becoming more aware of the connection between how you live, how you feel, and how you care for your skin.
Stress Can Show Up in More Than Your Mood
We often think of stress as something happening only in our minds, but our bodies experience it too.
When life feels overwhelming, our routines can change without us even noticing.
Maybe you're sleeping less.
Maybe you're reaching for different foods.
Maybe you've stopped exercising.
Maybe your skincare routine has become inconsistent.
Or maybe you're doing everything you're “supposed” to do but still feel exhausted.
Instead of adding more pressure, this can be an invitation to ask:
What does my body need from me right now?
Sometimes the next step isn't another serum.
Sometimes it's rest.
A walk outside.
A more consistent bedtime.
Five quiet minutes.
Or simply simplifying your routine.
Healthy Skin Doesn't Require a Perfect Lifestyle
One of the biggest things I want women to move away from is the idea that wellness has to be perfect.
You don't need the perfect morning routine.
You don't need to eat perfectly.
You don't need to exercise every day.
And you definitely don't need a 10-step skincare routine.
Sustainable wellness is often much simpler.
It's about finding small habits that actually fit into your life and repeating them consistently enough to make a difference.
Try This Simple Skin + Wellness Check-In
This week, instead of trying to change everything, choose one area to pay attention to.
Maybe it's getting to bed a little earlier.
Maybe it's drinking more water throughout your day.
Maybe it's taking a 15-minute walk.
Maybe it's finally becoming consistent with your evening skincare routine.
Ask yourself:
“What is one small thing I can realistically do this week that would help me feel better?”
Start there.
You can always build from it.
A Different Way to Think About Skincare
After many years working as an esthetician, my approach to skin has evolved.
I still love treatments, skincare products, and everything that can help us care for our skin externally. But I also believe we need to look at the person behind the skin.
How are you feeling?
What are you struggling with?
What habits are supporting you?
What feels overwhelming?
What would feeling well actually look like for you?
That is where skincare and wellness begin to come together.
Your skin is one part of your story—not something that needs to be perfected.
Take care of the skin, but don't forget to take care of the person living in it.
